Uranium Projects in Newfoundland

Spruce Ridge Resources has a very large project in Western Newfoundland totaling 2,885 contiguous claims (72,125 hectares). The project is divided into two properties, the Deer Lake property and the Turner's Ridge property. The company has discovered two separate uranium zones, one located on the Deer Lake property and one on the Turner's ridge property. Other exploration companies active in the area include Altius Minerals, JNR Resources and Ucore Uranium. Click here for more information on the properties. "The [Deer Lake Basin] property exhibits positive exploration potential for small-medium-large tonnage
uranium deposits with reasonable consistent grades requiring initial assessment and re-evaluation."

The company plans a major exploration program of both the Deer Lake Basin and the Turners Ridge properties.  Planned activities for 2007 include shallow diamond drilling of defined targets, airborne radiometric, magnetic and EM surveys, intensive prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical surveys.

Deer Lake Property , Newfoundland

In late 2006, anomalous radioactivity was located over a length of 798 metres in intermittent outcrops in the banks of a brook in the Deer Lake Basin of Western Newfoundland (see photos below).  On November 1, 2006 the Company reported assays received from the Saskatchewan Research Council for seven high-grade uranium samples. Analytical results of the seven samples ranged from 661 ppm uranium to 31,500 ppm (equivalent to 3.73% U3O8).   Assay results are reported below:

U   Cu Ag Ni Pb Zn Mo
Tag # ppm U3O8 % ppm ppm ppm ppm ppm

The Company had previously announced on October 25, 2006 the first results from the Deer Lake property in the Deer Lake Basin.  The first 27 samples ranged from 29 ppm uranium to a high of 654 ppm (equivalent to 0.077% U3O8) and copper up to 0.36%. The samples were analysed by Accurassay Laboratories Ltd. in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Radiometric readings over the mineralized area ranged from 6 to more than 100 times background.  The mineralization consists of pitchblende and occurs in a 1 metre thick band of grey, flat-lying sediment with pyrite and chalcopyrite.  The surface samples collected are weathered and may have experienced leaching of some of their original uranium content.

From the original 32 claims, Spruce Ridge has staked additional claims, expanding the Deer Lake property to 2,076 claims or 51,900 hectares. The company owns 100% of the property. The property is easily accessed by paved highways that cross the property. Exploration continues on the property.

Turner’s Ridge Property, Newfoundland

Spruce Ridge Resources recently announced the discovery of a new zone of uranium mineralization on its Turner’s Ridge property in north western Newfoundland about 60 kilometres northeast of its previously announced discovery.  The Determination Zone has been found in outcrop over an area of 110 metres by 22 metres.  The average assay result of eleven grab samples is 0.156% U3O8 or 3.12 pounds per ton. The eleven samples taken returned assay results from 0.043% to 0.274% U3O8, with an average of 0.156% U3O8.  Anomalous gold and nickel values are associated with the mineralization.

The Determination Zone was found by prospectors from ASK Prospecting and Guiding Inc. during follow-up of radiometric anomalies located by an airborne magnetic/EM/gamma-ray spectrometer survey flown in the summer of 2006.  It is exposed on the side of a ridge within sight of a main highway (see photos below).

The host rock appears to be a felsic pyroclastic rock affected by intense clay alteration.  The principal alteration mineral has been identified by reflectance spectroscopy as illite.  Illite is one of the most common alteration minerals associated with unconformity-related uranium mineralization in the Athabasca Basin of Saskatchewan.

The mineralization was found in pre-Carboniferous basement rocks at the northern margin of the Deer Lake Basin.  It occurs in a wedge-shaped area between two fault structures: the Douceurs Valley fault and the Wigwam fault.  The airborne magnetic survey shows offsets of nearby magnetic units suggesting the existence of an east-northeasterly trending cross-fault.  The Determination Zone lies approximately 26 kilometres north of the high grade uranium-silver-gold bearing boulders being explored by Altius Minerals and JNR Resources.

The Turner's ridge property consists of 809 claims or 20,225 hectares. The company owns between 90% and 100% of the claims and the property is easily accessed by paved highways that cross the property.

Exploration that began in 2005 has revealed in addition to uranium significant deposits of lead, zinc, silver and gold. One sample taken from a large outcrop gave an assay of  9.72% Pb and 1.52% Zn.
